Linguini with clam sauce (and shrimp)

could be one of the best pasta dishes my mom makes. she makes the best clam sauce, however she didn't have as many clams as she usually does, so she sauteed some shrimp with garlic and butter and used that. tasty. we garnished with fresh grated parm, extra virgin olive oil and red pepper flakes.

Still eating

Some more pics from turkey day: shrimp cocktail defrosting, ed prepping the artichokes, the macallan 12, and some potato chips i made

Too full to post

I was too full to post from the past few days, which included, hibachi at Shogun (filet mignon and lobster tail last night) and a hoagie haven cheesesteak (friday night). here are some pics from thanksgiving: baby artichokes, potato mushroom gratin, my mushroom and garlic mixture, dad's famous clam dip, the brined turkey

Still good to be home

went to the dentist today, came back to dad's chicken chow fun. it was a little heavy on black pepper, and i like the chinese broccoli a little more cooked, but it was still good. also i added maggi, because as mentioned before, maggi rules, and secondly, the parental units don't like salty (read: normally seasoned) food.

Leftover Breakfast

in my fridge this morning: leftover chicken, deli ham, muenster cheese, eggs, leftover baked potato, tabasco. Took the potato and chicken and sliced them up, threw it all in a pan, added the rest towards end and voila. leftover breakfast.

maggi sauce

do you know what maggi is? i've been eating this stuff for as long as I can remember. my mom always said, "don't use too much! it's too salty." but this is better than soy sauce, better than most asian seasoning sauces. if you can find it, buy it. this is my hard boiled egg with maggi. as you can see the label wore off over the past 20 years (we buy a huge bottle and refill the small one). Maggi is best on eggs and dumplings.

It's Good to Be Home

Sometimes people don't believe me when I tell them how much food we eat here at my parents' house in NJ. Luckily the new food blog will help portray what it's like to be home.

So i've been here for a little less than two hours, and here's a bit of what i've eaten.

Let's start with the leftover seafood paella. This one has shrimp, squid, baby octopus, mussels, clams and peas. Just needed to microwave for a minute twenty and threw some extra virgin olive oil to moisten it up.

That was quickly finished.

Then came the meatballs...

While I was eating the paella, my dad was making his meatball mixture. He used milk soaked bread, fresh bread, sauteed onions and parsley, meat, egg, worcestershire sauce, mozzarella and parmesan cheese.

And then lastly...the chicken, which was a whole roasted chicken with fresh rosemary. it doesn't get better than this.

Noodles

I had an asiago cheese bagel with tomato and cc from Au Bon Pain and an iced coffee, but I forgot to snap photos of that. It didn't cure my hangover either.

So I went to Lilly's, a chinese restaurant down by the World Trade Center, with a couple co-workers to see if that would help. And now I just feel more gross. I got the Taiwanese Mei Fun, which was a thin mei fun noodle with chicken, pork, shrimp and egg. It was definitely huge, and I still ate the whole thing. Here I am about halfway into it. [Lilly's, $8.95]

Taco Tuesday

It is Tuesday, but I actually made these tacos on Saturday night. Brain turned me on to broiling steak as apposed to grilling, so I broiled a nice marbled steak, and warmed up some corn tortillas, added black beans, tomatoes, hot sauce, sour cream and lime, and a slice of cheddar and there you have it folks. I think next time I will just use steak, shredded cabbage, sour cream and some sort of chiles. oh yeah, i rubbed the steak with taco seasoning before broiling. it came out very nice.
